Xiaomi-led brand Redmi has unveiled Redmi K50 Gaming, the first device in the highly anticipated Redmi K50 lineup and the successor to the K40 Gaming from last year. Qualcomm's latest flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset powers the new gaming phone. Additionally, it is the first smartphone in the Xiaomi and Mercedes-AMG F1 team partnership to feature a special limited edition phone donning the racing team's badge and colors.
The Redmi K50 Gaming edition is equipped with a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution, a refresh rate of 120Hz, a touch sampling rate of 480Hz, and a 10bit color output. Its panel is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus.
Xiaomi created an entirely new dual vapor chamber (VC) cooling system to keep the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 CPU and other components cool. It begins with a copper radiator affixed directly to the chipset. Additionally, Xiaomi made use of dual graphite sheets, stainless steel, and mesh.
The phone includes a CyberEngine x-axis haptics motor and dual JBL-tuned speakers. Additionally, there are two magnetic pop-up shoulder buttons on the right-hand side. The device has a metal frame and a glass back.
The front-facing camera houses a 20MP Sony IMX 596, while the back features a triple camera setup, consisting of a 64MP Sony IMX 686 primary sensor, an 8MP ultrawide lens, and a 2MP telemacro sensor.
Further, the Redmi K50 Gaming edition features a 4,700mAh battery with 120W fast charging that, according to Xiaomi, can be fully charged in just 17 minutes. Moreover, the mobile brand claims that the phone can be fully juiced up in 37 minutes while being actively used for playing games. Software-wise, it runs on MIUI 13 interface, which is based on Android 12. Additionally, the phone supports WiFi 6E, NFC, Bluetooth 5.2, USB-C port, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The standard K50 Gaming with 8GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB UFS 3.1 storage is priced at CNY 3,299 (~USD 520). The 12/128 GB version retails at CNY 3,599 (~USD 567), and the 12/256GB variant sells for CNY 3,899 (~USD 615). The limited-edition Mercedes AMG F1 version with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage will retail for CNY 4,199(~USD 662). In China, sales began on February 18. Pricing and availability for international markets have not yet been revealed.
