Globe projects higher 5G device penetration in 2022

Globe said they expect a higher 5G device penetration among its customers in 2022 with the continuous expansion of 5G network coverage in the country and the release of more affordable handsets.

The telco identified over 1.62 million 5G devices in its network as of end-December 2021, with a substantial portion of those devices coming from prepaid brands. This is a remarkable 300 percent increase in ownership from the first quarter of last year to the fourth quarter.

Darius Delgado, Globe Head of Consumer Mobile Business, said that they "expect this momentum to continue, especially as all major device partners today carry and banner 5G handsets in their portfolios" paired with the telco's "continued 5G network expansion."

Globe now has over 2,000 5G sites, covering 96 percent of the National Capital Region (NCR) and 84 percent of Visayas and Mindanao's key cities.

The expansion operations were complemented by the company's attempts to accelerate 5G adoption through product offers and education, allowing customers to experience the new technology fully. Globe has made numerous entry-level and mid-range 5G smartphones available for free with a postpaid plan or at a reasonable price when purchased separately.

With speeds up to seven times faster than 4G, 5G technology now provides the fastest mobile connectivity and download rates.

Similarly, Globe expanded its 5G roaming services in other European countries, giving it the only Philippine telecom with the continent's most extensive 5G coverage. It is partnering with more 5G-ready telecoms globally to provide customers with a high-speed data roaming experience.

Globe was the first provider in the Philippines to commercially offer 5G AirFiber for Home use in 2019.
