Ubisoft has revealed Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Mobile, an upcoming free-to-play tactical first-person shooter (FPS) mobile game for Android and iOS devices.
The mobile version of Rainbow Six Siege has been built from scratch and will be a standalone title. Meaning, cross-play between Android and iOS will be available out of the box, but cross-play with the console/PC version of Siege is not allowed. Rainbow Six Mobile (R6M) is slated for release sometime in 2022.
According to the developer, R6M has been in development for more than three years. While the core gameplay, characters, and maps may share similarities with the original Rainbow Six Siege, everything has been rebuilt to optimize R6M for mobile platforms.
"We have put a lot of work under the hood to adapt the Siege experience for mobile devices," said Ubisoft in a blog post. "This includes an entirely new gameplay control system developed specifically for mobile and extensive optimization of the UI [User Interface] and in-game visual presentation."
Ubisoft has at least revealed the gameplay, revealing that 5v5 player-versus-player (PvP) matches will form the game's core in an attack/defense mode. There are expected to be familiar maps such as Bank and Border, as well as Secure Area and Bomb for PvP.
The developer also unveiled the ten operators: Ash, Sledge, Twitch, Hibana, and Thermite are the operators for the Attackers, while Caveira, Bandit, Smoke, Mute, and Valkyrie are the defending operators.
The game will be playable on Android and iOS, and players can register for a chance to test out the game by visiting the official Rainbow Six Mobile website (http://rainbowsixmobile.com/).
Ubisoft now joins a growing list of developers developing mobile versions of their flagship titles in order to tap into the emerging market. Some of the shooter games that were ported into mobile are COD Mobile, PUBG Mobile, and Apex Legends Mobile.
