Warcraft mobile game to release in 2022

Blizzard Entertainment has announced its plan to release a Warcraft mobile game in 2022.

In a quarterly earnings report, Activision said it is working on "substantial new content for the Warcraft franchise in 2022," which comprises "all-new mobile Warcraft content." Additionally, this will bring "new experiences in World of Warcraft and Hearthstone."

Besides confirming the launch of the mobile version of Warcraft, no further details have been revealed, such as the release date.

For the uninitiated, "Warcraft" is a franchise of games, novels, and media created by Blizzard in 1994, with an MMORPG titled "World of Warcraft (WoW)" launched in 2004. Since the launch of WoW, it has had eight major expansion packs, such as Shadowlands, released in 2020.

Currently, the only mobile game that incorporates Warcraft is "Hearthstone." The free-to-play game launched on iOS and Android in 2014. However, it is an online digital collectible card game, in stark contrast to the role-playing game experience of WoW or the real-time strategy of the first three Warcraft titles. The recent Hearthstone Patch 22.2 introduced Battlegrounds Buddies, updates for Mercenaries, and more.

If a Warcraft mobile game is released this year, it will not be Blizzard's only mobile game, as Diablo: Immortal is also currently slated for release in the first half of 2022.

Diablo: Immortal, first announced in 2018, is still in pre-register phase on Google Play Store.
