Facebook Reels releases globally with monetization features

Mark Zuckerberg-led Meta has expanded the availability of Facebook Reels for Android and iOS platforms to more than 150 countries. Along with the release, content creators are given new ways to earn money.

Facebook Reels allows users to create short-form content with music, audio, and effects, similar to how they do on TikTok. They can also cross-post Reels from Instagram to reach a broader audience.

Moreover, the social media conglomerate introduces new creative tools and monetization options for creators to earn money through advertising on their Reels.

They're launching their Reels Play bonus program as part of their USD 1 billion creator investment, which will pay eligible creators up to USD 35,000 per month based on the number of views of their qualifying reels. These bonuses have aided creators in funding reel creation and gaining a better understanding of the types of content that works on the social media platform. The company plans to expand the feature to additional countries in the coming months, as it is presently only available in the US.

Meta is currently testing Facebook Reels Overlay Ads with all creators in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with additional countries to follow in the coming weeks.

The monetization features of Facebook Reels have two types of formats: banner ads and sticker ads. The banner ads appear at the bottom of a Facebook Reel as a semi-transparent overlay. Meanwhile, a creator can place sticker ads, a static image advertisement, anywhere within their reel. These non-interruptive advertisements allow creators to earn a share of the advertising revenue.

As with Instagram Reels, Facebook Reels users will be able to "remix" other users' videos and upload clips up to 60 seconds in length. They'll also be able to save drafts, and Meta will soon add new video clipping tools "that will make it easier for creators who publish live or long-form, recorded videos to test different formats."

Meta said that "over the coming weeks," Facebook users will be able to share their Reels in more places on the platform, including in the Stories and the Watch tab.
