Southeast Asian team Boom Esports won the Gamers Galaxy: Invitational Series Dubai 2022 after defeating Western Europe squad Tundra Esports, 3-2, in the grand finals on Monday (PH time).
Tundra started strong in Game 1 of the Grand Finals, as Oliver "skiter" Lepko crushed Boom with his aggressive play on Gyrocopter, recording an 8-0-8 KDA score. Tundra finished the game in 32 minutes to lead the series, 1-0.
Game 2 saw Boom making a resurgence with Souliya "JaCkky" Khoomphetsavong's Faceless Void, posting 12 kills and 10 assists against 0 deaths. Boom concluded the second game in the 34-minute mark to tie up the series 1-1.
Tundra crushed Boom in Game 3 with a landslide 28-8 kill lead in the 33-minute mark to lead the series 2-1. Leon "Nine" Kirilin's Timbersaw stood out in the third game, registering a 13-2-8 KDA record.
With their back against the wall, Boom successfully bounced back in the pivotal Game 4 with an all-out performance by Erin Jasper "Yopaj" Ferrer on his Templar Assassin, listing 11 kills and 6 assists against 1 death. Boom squad ended the fourth game in under 29 minutes with a 20-11 kill lead to force a decider match, 2-2.
Continuing their momentum, Boom outplayed their opponents in a grueling 46-minute Game 5 with a 29-18 kill lead to secure the win in the best-of-5 series grand finals.
With their victory, Boom Esports bagged the tournament's grand prize of AED 400,000 (around PHP 5.6 million). Meanwhile, Tundra settled for second place and earned AED 200,000 (around PHP 2.8 million) in consolation.
Boom had an epic run in the entire competition. They dominated the group stages, 3-0, securing an upper bracket slot in the playoffs. However, the Southeast Asian squad was defeated by Tundra in their first playoff series 2-1.
Their lower-bracket campaign led them to the grand finals to exact revenge against Tundra, beating European squads Team Secret and Nigma Galaxy, as well as The International 10 champions Team Spirit.
